Tweed-New Haven Airport Shares Travel Tips Ahead of Winter Storm

January 23, 2026

New Haven CT — As a winter storm is forecast to impact Southern Connecticut from the evening of Sunday, January 25 through Monday, January 26, Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) is sharing travel tips to help passengers plan ahead, stay informed, and travel safely.

Airport and airline teams are closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating efforts to minimize disruptions where possible. As snow and winter weather is expected to impact flight schedules, roadway conditions, and parking operations, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey. It is critical to stay updated with your airline and plan ahead for potential disruptions or cancellations.

HVN maintenance and operations crews are actively preparing airfield, terminal, and roadway areas to maintain safe conditions throughout the storm, with snow removal and winter safety protocols in place. The airport will continue working closely with airline partners and public safety officials to monitor conditions and support safe and reliable operations.

Passengers are reminded of the following travel tips to help ensure a smooth experience:

Travel Tips

  • Check your flight status directly with your airline before leaving for the airport and sign up for alerts at www.avelo.com and https://www.flybreeze.com.
  • Reserve parking in advance at ParkHVN.com to guarantee a space.
  • Download boarding passes in advance and monitor real-time flight updates.
  • Arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure, especially if checking a bag.
  • Check luggage with the airline no later than 45 minutes before scheduled departure.
  • Allow extra travel time due to winter weather, particularly during afternoon peak periods.
  • Sign up for TSA PreCheck to expedite security screening.
  • Pack smart by limiting liquids and gels in carry-on bags to 3.4 ounces or less and keeping essentials easily accessible.
  • Parking on residential streets surrounding HVN is strictly prohibited. Vehicles parked in violation will be subject to enforcement, including ticketing and towing.

Parking and Ground Transportation

Passengers are encouraged to reserve HVN’s newest parking option, Park and Ride @ Long Wharf, which offers covered parking and shuttle service to and from the airport. Parking reservations are required and can be made in advance at ParkHVN.com.

Travelers should allow extra time when using Park and Ride @ Long Wharf, as winter weather may result in shuttle delays.
