Tweed New Haven Airport Expands Collaboration with New Haven Artist Michael Pollack
New installations bring New Haven art, pizza and community throughout the departures terminal at Tweed-New Haven Airport
New Haven, CT – Tweed New Haven Airport is expanding its collaboration with New Haven artist Michael Pollack, bringing a collection of his New Haven Pizza Club installations to the departures terminal to celebrate the region’s art, culture and community. On June 4, 2025, Pollack partnered with Tweed and the State of Connecticut to unveil Pizza State, an installation made from reclaimed Connecticut highway welcome signs that celebrates New Haven-style apizza. Now permanently displayed in the departures terminal, the piece serves as the foundation for an expanded collection highlighting local businesses, institutions, partnerships and the people behind them.
Through New Haven Pizza Club, Pollack transforms the city’s iconic pizza culture into art and immersive experiences that connect the community. At Tweed, his work turns the airport into both a canvas and a cultural gateway to New Haven.

“Art Is Where You Find It,” an homage to Banksy through the unmistakable visual language of New Haven apizza, Abeatsy places street art and pizza culture on the same canvas. The work reflects Pollack’s larger practice of turning something familiar into an unexpected cultural symbol.
“Michael’s work captures so much of what makes New Haven special, it’s creative, unexpected, deeply local and built around bringing people together,” said Tom Cavaliere, Director of Community Engagement at Tweed New Haven Airport. “As Tweed and Greater New Haven grow, we want the airport to reflect the place we serve and give travelers a sense of its culture and character. This collaboration does exactly that.”

“I ONLY EAT PIZZA FROM NEW HAVEN”, A Declaration of Cultural Pride, turns Pollack’s signature statement into a bold declaration of place. More than a preference, it proudly represents a city, its makers and a culinary legacy that has become inseparable from New Haven’s identity.
“Moon Pie”, depicting a NASA astronaut floating toward a slice of Modern Apizza; The Pie-Cycle, a custom Modern Apizza delivery bicycle; and a functioning artist-edition New Haven Advocate newsstand offering free copies to travelers.
The installations also highlight the Feeding Families Foundation, which grew from one family’s experience at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and provides meals for parents, caregivers and nurses alongside children undergoing cancer treatment.
Coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, pieces at Tweed share the story of Harper Dorman, who beat leukemia at age three and whose family inspired the foundation, as well as Pollack’s recognition in the Congressional Record for supporting its work.
“Pizza is a universal language that brings people together,” said Michael Pollack, Artist and Founder of The New Haven Pizza Club. “Having this collection at Tweed allows us to welcome travelers through New Haven’s art and culture while drawing attention to the important work of the Feeding Families Foundation.”
The installations are now on display throughout Tweed’s departures terminal. More photos of the pizza art installations are available here.
