Tweed-New Haven Airport Expands Connections to Puerto Rico and Houston, Bringing More Travel Opportunities to Southern Connecticut

June 25, 2026

New Avelo service reflects continued growth at HVN and strengthens access to two vibrant destinations for leisure, family, and business travel

NEW HAVEN, CT – Travelers flying from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) will soon have even more opportunities to explore new destinations, reconnect with family, and access major business markets as Avelo Airlines expands its service from Southern Connecticut with the addition of nonstop flights to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The announcement marks another milestone in the continued growth of HVN, which now offers access to over 35 destinations and continues to provide Connecticut residents with more convenient travel options close to home. The new Aguadilla service also expands HVN’s Puerto Rico network, giving travelers direct access to a second destination on the island in addition to existing service to San Juan.

Beginning November 19, the new service to Aguadilla will connect HVN travelers directly to Puerto Rico’s west coast, a region known for its beautiful beaches, outdoor recreation, vibrant culture, and growing tourism industry. The route also provides an important connection for Connecticut’s Puerto Rican community, making it easier for families and loved ones to stay connected. With bookings now live, travelers can begin planning and reserving holiday travel to Puerto Rico through HVN today.

“Puerto Rico is both a world-class tourism destination and home to many family and cultural ties for Connecticut residents,” said Michael Jones, CEO of The New HVN. “With the community response to our direct San Juan flights from HVN, we are excited to be adding direct service to Aguadilla to expand access to a beautiful part of the island while making travel easier, more affordable, and more convenient for the communities we serve.”

In addition to the new Puerto Rico destination, Avelo will begin operating flights to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on September 21. As one of the nation’s largest aviation hubs, Bush Intercontinental provides travelers with expanded access to destinations across the United States and around the world. The airline’s previous Houston service was offered through William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

“The continued expansion of service at HVN is a reflection of the strong demand we are seeing from travelers throughout Connecticut and the broader region,” said Robert Reed, Chair of the Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority. “Every new route creates additional opportunities for residents, supports regional economic activity, and strengthens the airport’s role as an important transportation asset for Southern Connecticut.”

The addition of a second Puerto Rico destination and expanded access through Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport reflects the continued momentum at HVN and the growing demand for expanded air service in Southern Connecticut. By connecting travelers to more destinations, HVN is helping drive tourism, support local businesses, strengthen the regional economy, and provide greater access to opportunities both within and beyond Connecticut.
